After a great deal of thought, we have made the difficult decision to close Maes y Gwilog Quality Pork.

When we started this journey, our aim was simple: to provide high-quality, home-reared pork from our own family farm, with full traceability from field to fork. We wanted to offer local people the opportunity to buy meat produced with care, while supporting a small family business.

We worked hard to keep our prices as fair as possible, often matching supermarket prices despite the much higher costs involved in rearing our own pigs to a high standard. We hoped that offering local, traceable, home-reared pork would be something our community would value.

It’s disappointing that, even when our prices were comparable with supermarket prices, many people still chose larger retailers over locally produced food. Supporting local farms helps keep money in the local economy, provides complete traceability, and helps small family farms survive.

Unfortunately, despite all our efforts, there simply hasn’t been enough local support to make the business financially sustainable.

We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to every single customer who chose to support us. Every order, recommendation and kind word meant more than you know. You helped make this venture possible, and we are incredibly grateful.

While this chapter is coming to an end, we are proud of what we achieved and of the quality of the pork we produced. We wish all of our customers and fellow local businesses every success for the future.
